I purchased this six shelf rack to store and display my African Violets starters, leaf pots as well as my larger growing standards (none are full grown yet). I purchased the four foot long one with six shelves, because it made use of otherwise unused vertical space and left more floor space (for other larger houseplants plants).Each shelf holds 14, 6” x 8 1/2” open trays which I use for small 2” starters and 2” leaf pots(I am awaiting delivery of some slightly larger, small sized domed trays). I will update their fit.Another two shelves holds 24, 3” larger pots with room for their growing crowns (semi’s and not fully grown standards), I am able to tuck a few shorter starters in between. Another shelf I use for larger 6” pots as well as some of my larger potted cactuses. I am awaiting for the arrival of larger domed trays for the bottom shelf, which I hope to organize and make more room for the somewhat larger starters. I hope to update as soon as I get receive them and get the plants settled).I am really pleased with this rack, and will be purchasing at least one other to accommodate, the growing starters, and many soon to be divided leaf pots.These shelves were easily put together by myself.I love that the shelves are adjustable to accommodate the different size growth of the plants that require different distances from the grow lights. The grow lights I purchased (on Amazon, wished they would let me provide a link), easily clipped onto the bottom of each shelf, and does not produce enough heat to affect the plants on the shelf above (closer together with the starters and leaf pots (I hope to add some pictures so you can see their use). The six shelf one is quite taller and the top shelf is harder to reach for me (I am 5’2”) but I really need the extra space with my growing collection and starter babies, so I just use a footstool). I also purchased separately the plastic mats that fit these shelves. I highly recommend these as it makes it easy to clean up potential spills and prevents any water from spilling down to the plants below (with their leaves so sensitive to water). More importantly is they provide stability for my 3” pots that are not in trays.This rack comes with the choice of either adjustable stationary bottoms, or castors with brakes. I love the castors and the brakes sold me on these shelves, as not all choices out there have this feature, it makes it easier to move to clean behind the rack, yet the brakes prevent unwanted movement the rest of the time. Although I have not used the stationary adjustable feature, I think this would be essential at keeping plants in trays level, for watering, so that all the plants have access to equal amounts of water, as their neighboring plants in the same trays.
